Lou and Jerry and baffled by a new girl who moves in to the neighbourhood. Why does she stay home all the time? And why does her father forbid her to visit Habitat? It’s because she is in a wheelchair, the result of a tragic accident in which her mother was killed. Our twins and Skippy succeed in taking the girl to visit their animals, and she defies her father by trying to join the Hammonds on a picnic at the local waterhole.
But her wheelchair gets out of control on a bush track. She overturns and is nearly drowned in a creek full of rapids. Skippy alerts Lou and Jerry, and Jerry’s swimming skills save the day. And what could be more natural than that Jerry should offer to teach the girl to swim? Her father, overcoming his objections, is amazed and delighted.
