Jerry and Lou, with the assistance of Skippy, have become local heroes when they led police to two bank robbers who were hiding out in the national park, although the $250,000 that the robbers stole was never recovered. Alex and Bill, two lovable vagabonds who once tried to kidnap Skippy because they thought she could talk, see her picture in the paper and think she will be able to lead them to the money. They go to Habitat and convince Jerry and Lou that if they help them find the missing money, they will give all the reward to charity.
The trio take off into the national park in pursuit of Skippy. But instead of leading them to the money, Skippy leads them into one misadventure after another. Eventually they end up floundering in a mud hole in the swamp, and have to be pulled out by Thel and the four wheel drive. For a short time they decide to turn over a new leaf and take up an honest job – but after a few hours, they decide to give up the brush cutting work they have taken at Habitat and walk away, only a few feet from the illusive money they had been trying so hard to find.
