Sonny is the sort of father that kids dream of.
Tall, strong and tanned, he seems able to turn his hand to almost everything and make a reasonable go of it.
But Sonny’s life has not always been easy.
Brought up by his father, who was a ranger in an Australian national park, he didn’t want a college education and left home as a young man to go travelling the world.
Then he met Margaret and life became perfect. They had a true love match. They didn’t have much money, but it didn’t seem to matter. When they were first married, Sonny had a variety of jobs and so did Margaret – everything from running a caravan park in the Outback of Queensland to fruit picking in Victoria.
Then the twins came along and Sonny knew it was time for them to settle down. He took a job as a ranger in Southern Queensland, following in the family tradition.
Then Margaret died and Sonny’s job became very important to him as it provided him with his home and security for his children and it was a job that he always loved.
And of course the job led to Skippy.
However, everything changes when Sonny has an accident and cannot be as mobile as the job of a park ranger demands. Circumstances lead him to Habitat and Sonny becomes a much more typical person living and surviving in the ’90s – running a small business (an animal park), involved in tourism, and raising his family as well as he can. Although he can work in the outdoors that he loves, the park is not without its problems, but Sonny proves he is willing to have a go. And, like everything in his life, he will do his best to make it a success.
