Skippy is the smartest and most lovable bush kangaroo in the whole of Australia.
She was rescued from the aftermath of a hit-and-run accident by Sonny Hammond during his period of Park Ranger.
Sonny and his children did not train Skippy in any formal sense but they loved her and Skippy responded.
Now that she is grown (up to about the waist on an adult) she is an ideal companion for the Hammond twins and part of their happy life as the children on a Ranger.
Skippy is fiercely protective towards the twins, and will do anything to see that they do not come to harm, especially in the bush, which is her natural home.
She always treats Sonny with respect, and ifnores Thel when Thel is in one of her moods. She likes Kate and recognises in her the saviour of many bush animals.
To enemies of the Hammond Family, Skippy is swift and certain in retribution.
Skippy can do more than most kangaroos because of her unique upbringing. It is in her nature to be the fastest mover in the family, to have the strongest legs and the sharpest claws. And these attributes, combined with her loyalty, make her a good person to have around when the going gets tough.
Skippy is not seen to do things that are outside the range of lesser kangaroos but she can do many feats that are within the powers of all Kangaroos.
Skippy is treated as a member of the family.
